A Day in Cascais

Day offs, when the weather is a lovely 27 degrees, means it is a day for the beach. That is exactly what Rachael, Heidi and I did today. It was the perfect day to explore the town of Cascais - to do a little shopping and to lounge on the beach. We failed to pack bathing suits for some reason. I'm not sure where our heads were, but we know for next time that you ALWAYS bring bathing suits with you when you go to the beach.

Going to the beach in Europe is definitely a different experience to that of Manitoba. I witnessed topless women and children laying on the beach and men in tighy-whities and speedos. Definitely a different culture to than what I am accustomed to. Regardless, we found a beautiful spot on the beach - where we could enjoy both sun and shade. It was so nice to have our feet in the sand again, however the ocean water was still a tad too chilly for my liking. Hopefully the next time we are at the beach, the water will be warmer.

On the train - heading to the beach!!!!

Cascais is a coastal town, 30 kilometres west of Lisbon (which is actually really close to where we live in Massama). It is a cosmopolitan suburb of the Portuguese capital and one of the richest municipalities in Portugal. The former fishing village gained fame as a resort for Portugal's royal family in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Nowadays, it is a popular vacation spot for both Portuguese and foreign tourists.

Only in Europe does McDonalds look this lovely and classy!
